Porsche Macan: The relatively affordable and practical SUV from Porsche!
The Porsche Macan has always been one of the best driving SUVs in the world. This particular generation of the Macan made its way to the Indian market back in 2016, followed by a facelift launched last year.
In its previous-spec, the Macan was priced closer to its bigger sibling, the Cayenne, not justifying its worth as a size-for-price proposition. So, with the new facelift Macan, Porsche has revisited its price, to make it a better proposition from day one instead.
As is a norm with facelifts, Porsche has not made any significant changes under the skin of the Macan. Not that the Macan was lacking anything, to begin with. Therefore, the core qualities of the Macan remain intact as it still carves out its space in the segment as one of the best handling SUVs with the dynamic prowess of a sedan.
We were so impressed with the Macan last year, that we also crowned it as our one of the ‘Best of 2019’. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Macan.
Specifications
Given that it is a facelift, there are only a small number of changes with the new Macan. While these changes are hard to spot at first, they do gel well together to ensure the Macan looks modern and refreshing. For instance, the full-LED headlamps from newer Porsches are now fitted into the Macan, though that’s the only major change at the front. The biggest giveaway for this new Porsche is at the rear, where there’s a light strip between the tail-lights and 3D Porsche lettering in the middle.
As for the dimensions of the Macan, it is 4,696mm in length, 1,923mm in width, and 1,624mm in height. The massive 18-inch alloy wheels are separated by a wheelbase of 2,807mm.Apart from that, it has a fuel tank capacity of 65-litres and a boot space capacity of 500-litres.
Under the hood, the baby Porsche SUV is introduced with two petrol engines. The entry-level engine here is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, which is capable of churning out 248bhp and 370Nm of torque. The higher-variant of the Porsche Macan comes powered with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, which is good for 349bhp and 480Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to the same 7-speed PDK transmission from Porsche.
Mileage
In the case of fuel efficiency, do not expect the Porsche SUV to deliver any mind-numbing numbers. Of course, since Porsche has made its emphasis on performance, the Macan is an injudicious sipper as it delivers somewhere between 8-10km/l.
Features
Sufficed to say, the materials and the fit-and-finish of just about everything is simply exemplary inside the Macan. The dashboard is laid out in typical Porsche fashion too.
As for the features, it gets multifunction steering with paddle-shifters, tyre pressure monitoring, three-zone climate control, bi-xenon headlamps, Porsche’s Communication Management system that includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management, Porsche Car Connect, and support for Apple CarPlay amongst other things.
Colours
The Macan, as of early-2020, comes in thirteen shades, namely, Sapphire Blue Metallic,White,Black,Carrara White Metallic,Jet Black Metallic,Volcano Grey Metallic,Dolomite Silver Metallic,Mamba Green Metallic,Night Blue Metallic,Mahogany Metallic,Carmine Red,Crayon, and Miami Blue.
