CBD Oil: Expectations vs Reality

The rate at which cannabis products, especially CBD oil, has risen in popularity can be linked to the numerous positive effects it has on the human body.

CBD oils are extracted from different parts of the cannabis plant and contain different chemical compounds referred to as cannabinoids, which influence the endocannabinoid system and affect bodily functions.

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds naturally found in the cannabis plant. Although there are more than 100 cannabinoids available, the most renowned ones are THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol) which are psychoactive and non-psychoactive respectively.

As stated earlier, cannabinoids affect the endocannabinoid system which is a neurotransmission system that works to maintain vital body functions like appetite, hunger, and sleep. This system is made up of two receptors known as CB1 and CB2 receptors.

When ingested, cannabinoids combine with these receptors to naturally regulate several bodily functions.

Is CBD oil actually worthy of its hype?

There are times when cannabis and its derivatives are heralded as miracle drugs. Considering their chemical properties, it is not surprising how much press CBD products are able to garner. The many positive health benefits of cannabis have long been touted by many modern medical experts.

This, however, has caused the plant, as well as its derivatives and modes of preparation, to come under quite a lot of scrutiny. When you think about some factors of CBD oil like its benefits, legality, and costs, many people are still a bit confused as to whether it is really worth the hype.

Even though there is quite a lot of evidence of its effectiveness, thanks to popular opinion and the number of stores selling CBD online, the most efficient ways of determining if CBD oils meet the expectations set for it is by reviewing study and research papers.

There have been quite a number of studies conducted to ascertain if cannabinoids are a valuable addition to the treatment of chronic and terminal illnesses.

Studies showing the positive benefits of CBD

One study, which involved over 150 people, was conducted to test the efficacy of CBD and THC on cancer-related discomforts that have still not been addressed by modern chemical pain medication. The study discovered that the participants being treated with CBD and THC experienced significant pain relief compared to those individuals who were administered pharmaceutical pain medication.

Another study showed that CBD oil can actively prevent sebaceous glands from creating excessive sebum. When these secretions are inhibited, anti-inflammatory responses are activated preventing the creation of inflammatory cytokines.

Another research study was conducted on persons that suffered from schizophrenia, as well as other mental health linked disorders, which showed that CBD oil can be used to help lower psychotic symptoms.

It has also been shown that when cannabinoid is infused into an oral spray, it can help to significantly improve pain relief. This test was carried out 58 individuals that suffered from rheumatoid arthritis.

Conclusion

CBD oil has been scientifically proven to better the lives of individuals that suffer from several terminal and chronic diseases. However, that does not mean that it is a cure-all product or that it should be used in place of traditional medications. That being said, CBD is a great supplement to these, but you should always consult your doctor before adding CBD to your health regimen.
