Create Your Ideal Work-From-Home Space with These Ideas

As more people find themselves confined to their homes, working from home is becoming more widespread. It can be challenging to maintain motivation and focus in this new working environment.

But there are ways to make things work and complete tasks on time. Below are a few suggestions you can apply to create your ideal home office.

Introduce personal touches

While a desk, chair, and notebook are some core features of any workspace, it’s also a good idea to add personal touches. Adding unique touches to your space can make working less dull and motivate you to do your best.

Depending on your interests and the things you value, there are several ways to go about this — from personal photos to inspirational words in stylized fonts.

For instance, you can affix a corkboard to the wall where you pin creative ideas that come to you throughout the day. You can also pin sketches or letters from loved ones and co-workers. If you want to personalize further, you can wrap them in black foil or gold foil sheets and create a painted background.

Keeping things simple in your workspace is a worthy goal to achieve. However, many people often shun anything that isn’t outright functional to avoid clutter. The key is to make the right balance.

Add some plants

If personalization isn’t a priority at the moment, consider adding some plants to your workspace. Succulents are ideal due since they are relatively low maintenance compared to other office plants.

There are a couple of benefits from adding some green in your workspace.

For one, it improves overall air quality. Plants absorb oxygenate the surrounding air. Plus, there’s some research showing that plants have a positive impact on productivity levels. All in all, plants aren’t there just for looks, they can improve how you work.

Just make sure that they’re well taken care of. Follow care instructions that come with the plants you purchase. Find out how often you should water or expose them to sunlight.

Get sufficient lighting

Good lighting is a must for any workspace. Sufficient illumination will help you ensure proper eye health — especially important if you spend hours in front of a computer screen.

If possible, find a spot in your home where you can get the right amount of natural light. Aside from saving on energy costs, using natural light can boost your mood and give you some vitamin D exposure. Just make sure that the level of sunlight isn’t too intense that impedes you from doing work.

If your workspace doesn’t have a lot of windows, you can invest in office desks or task lamps that provide ample illumination in your desk area.

Go easy on your back

Lastly, be mindful of your posture while at work. Spending hours sitting by a desk can encourage your body to slouch. Over time this can lead to severe back pain issues.

Get a comfortable seat that encourages proper posture while working. You’ll find several decently-priced chairs that offer sufficient lower back support while keeping your feet on the ground.

You can also invest in adjustable standing desks. These devices encourage you to stretch out your legs and maintain a straight back.

Additionally, you should also ensure that your screen or monitor is at eye level. Doing so minimizes the instances that you need to slouch to get a better view.
