Groupe britannique originaire de Newcastle, formé en 1979.
Venom est considéré comme une influence majeure du Thrash Metal et comme l'un des précurseurs du Black Metal, étant d'ailleurs célèbre pour avoir inventé le terme, qui est le titre du plus connu de leurs albums.
Ayant commencé dans les années 1980 en jouant un Heavy Metal très agressif à la limite de l'inaudible, Venom a depuis évolué vers du Thrash Metal fortement teinté de Black Metal.
Venom est aussi connu pour avoir été le second groupe de l'histoire du rock (après Black Sabbath) a avoir mentionné Satan dans une de ses chansons. Ajoutons à cela que la formation britannique est la première à l'avoir fait ouvertement figurer sur la pochette d'un disque (l'album "Welcome to Hell").

Biographie
1979 – Cronos (basse et chant), Mantas (guitare) et Abaddon (batteur), tous originaires de Newcastle (Angleterre) quittent le groupe Oberon pour créer Venom.
1981 - le groupe sort son premier album « Welcome To Hell » qui leur donna un grand succès, ils furent le second groupe de métal, après « Black Sabbath » à parler de Satan.
1982 – Leur album « Black Metal » fut l'album qui donna son nom au style éponyme.
1984 – Les deux groupes Venom et Metallica se produisent pour la première fois en France à l’espace Balard de Paris.
1987 - Apres l’album “Calm Before The Storm”, Cronos commence une nouvelle carrière dans un nouveau groupe nommé Cronos. Tony Dolan le remplace entre 1989 et 1992.
1997 - Le line-up classique est reformé et sort « Cast in Stone ».
2000 - Abaddon quitte le groupe pour suivre une carrière solo, pour l’album « Resurrection », Cronos recrute son frère Antony Lant (Antton).
2006 - Mantas quitte le groupe et forme Mantas 666 , Cronos le remplace par Mikvs pour l' album « Metal Black ».
Venom ne s'en tient pas là, annonçant pour Mai 2008 la sortie d'un nouvel album, intitulé "Hell", comportant treize nouveaux titres.
